The koi doesn’t stop for weather.
In Japanese mythology, the koi swims upstream. Against the current, against the waterfall, against everything the river throws at it. If it reaches the top, it becomes a dragon.
This umbrella carries that story. A white koi, inked with woodblock precision — every scale deliberate, every fin at full extension — set against a ground of deep lacquer red. Painted on a wall, the texture of the plaster visible beneath the paint. Ancient image, raw surface. The fish doesn’t know it’s on a wall. It’s still moving.
Open it in the rain and you’ll understand the metaphor immediately. The water falls on you. You keep walking. That’s the whole practice.
